What products are available online?
A full range of original hand-made oriental rugs Solomon's Collection products are available online including contemporary, traditional, and gabbeh rugs along with flatweaves such as Aubusson weaves, kilims, dhurries. Rug accessories such as double-sided non-slip rug padding are also available. We carry some items that are sold in our retail showroom. Inventory may occasionally differ among our stores, designer package and web site.

What is the Solomon's Collection return policy?
We are proud of our fine rugs at Solomon's Collection & Fine Rugs and want you to be perfectly satisfied with your purchase. All Solomon's Collection furniture and rugs are guaranteed. If you are not satisfied for any reason, you can return the rug within 15 days of receipt and we will gladly provide a merchandise credit or refund for your rug order.

How do I return merchandise?
Returns are easy. You can return the merchandise through the mail for a refund or exchange. Simply indicate the reason for return and the action to be taken, such as credit or refund. The items can also be returned at our Solomon's Collection showroom in Quincy, Massachusetts. If you return your items to our Solomon's Collection showroom, please provide the original invoice for merchandise credit or refund. Please note that this only applies to merchandise purchased online through solomonrugs.net.

What is the difference between natural wool hand-made rugs and synthetic fiber machine-made rugs?
Hand-made rugs use natural wool while lower quality synthetic fibers such as nylon are used in machine made rugs. Wool is the traditional fiber used in fine hand made Oriental rugs. Natural wool not only wears longer, but it also preserves its beautiful appearance, stays new-looking longer, and get better as they age. Each wool fiber is made up of millions of "coiled springs" that stretch and give rather than break, and so wool is extremely durable. Wool rugs absorb dyes differently than synthetic rugs giving them a more authentic look. Wool also maintains natural oils to protect from dirt and wear, used in authentic original oriental rugs for centuries. All of Solomon's rugs are of made of authentic wool, silk, cotton, or combination.

Why are handmade wool rugs higher quality and more durable over time?
Handmade rugs are superior to tufted and machine made area rugs. Machine-made rugs use synthetic materials and plastic backings that can tend to wear poorly and even release noxious chemicals onto the floor and into the air over time. Hand tufted rugs are versions are machine-made rugs and are constructed by pushing yarns with a machine through a heavy canvas backing, then shearing the face of the rug to create a cut pile. Hand tufted rugs are rugs made by machines, not hand-knotted or hand-made rugs!

What is a handmade flatweave, such as a kilim, needlepoint, or aubusson weave?
A flatweave is a rug woven through different weaving styles, where some of the weaving styles such as the aubusson weave are amongst the most intricate and skilled in the world.

What is a tufted rug?
Tufted area rugs are machine-made rugs where a hand tufted rug is constructed by pushing yarns with a machine through a heavy canvas backing, then shearing the face of the rug to create a cut pile. Hand tufted rugs are rugs made by machines, not hand-knotted or hand-made rugs!

How do I get my rug cleaned?
We know and love rugs, so we recommend a simple process to keep your rugs healthy and beautiful! A professional cleaning for your rug revitalizes the look and feel to give it a longer and healthier life.

SOLOMON'S COLLECTION provides professional cleaning care for your rug. Just bring in or send your rug to our pick-up center on 809 Hancock Street (Rt. 3A) in Quincy, Massachusetts.

GENERAL CARE

1. Vaccum your rug once a week. If your rug has fringes, be careful when vaccuming the fringes.

2. Remove spills quickly by blotting the affected area with a damp towel. Do not drag the towel along the affected area, but simply tap the area. Then tap the area with a dry towel. Do not leave the rug wet as it may mildew and cause the rug to rot.

3. Avoid exposing the rug to direct sunlight for a prolonged period of time. Excessive exposure to sunlight may cause the colors to fade and produce an unevenness in the colors of the rug. If the rug lies in the sun, rotate the rug every 4 months to enhance the life of the rug.

4. Any potential elements that may stain the rug, such as wine or pet urine, should be professionally cleaned out. Pet urine also requires a deorderization process to neutralize any odors.

5. Have your oriental rug professionally cleaned every 3 to 5 years. We recommend that you clean rugs in any high traffic area every 1 to 2 years.

How long will a Solomon's hand-made rug last?
There are many factors that can effect the longevity of an area rug. They include fiber type, weave and density. Our hand made rugs can last from 60 to as much as 100 years and beyond and can also appreciate in value. Tufted and most woolen machine made rugs will last from 5 to 10 years depending on quality and lose value. Synthetic fiber rugs will generally not perform as well as woolen rugs over many years of use, they should be replaced every 5 to 10 years depending on the quality of the rug.
