Enjoy a sweet summer at Rocky Creek Farm (formerly known as Sunny Ridge Strawberry Farm) on the Mornington Peninsula, Australia’s largest strawberry producer. Reopening daily from 29 October 2022, this family-friendly destination is located Main Ridge/Red Hill, only 75 minutes from Melbourne.
Rocky Creek Farm (formerly known as Sunny Ridge Strawberry Farm) is a great place for a u-pick strawberry picking experience, for purchasing seasonal berries and other fruit and veg or gourmet products or sitting down at the cafe for some strawberry-based desserts.
The U-pick experience is more for fun than for the actual quality of the fruit, as the boxes that you can buy from the shop are much better in terms of uniformity of colour and size. And if you have a bad back all that crouching and bending is not ideal (unlike cherry-picking which is more upright).
But for kids 3 and under it’s a perfect activity as they can pick for free with any adult ($9) and the 500g adult’s punnet takes about 15-20 minutes to fill so you’ll be finished before kids get bored. Children 4+ years pay $4 and receive a 250g punnet to fill. Note you can’t eat while you pick as they want you to wash the strawberries before consumption.
After your strawberry picking work check out the dessert cafe, which has outdoor picnic benches or there’s a little bit of (air-conditioned) seating on the inside. The cafe offers lots of strawberry-based items, including a delicious strawberry ice cream which is clearly home made with lots of strawberry pips and a bright pink colour.

The menu offers particularly impressive strawberry ice cream sundaes and I struggle to find one that isn’t enormous. I decide on a strawberry rough with strawberry and coconut ice cream, fresh strawberries, meringue crunch, chocolate flakes and crushed nuts ($9.50). It is beautifully presented and just right for a hot day. If you decide to order their famous Strawberry Temptation ($15) I recommend sharing with two people.
Rocky Creek Farm (formerly known as Sunny Ridge Strawberry Farm) is one of the must-do locations to visit with kids in the Mornington Peninsula. Strawberry picking is fun for a short time and easy for little kids to do and the dessert cafe has lots on the menu for sweet tooths. Note that the strawberry farm can be incredibly busy, especially during the summer holidays. During peak periods their car park will be full so you will need to park by the main road.
