The playground showcases the area’s maritime and waterside history and reuses old maritime equipment.

and smaller features like unusual spinners and musical instruments as well as a dedicated sand play and musical area at toddler height.

A drawcard in hot weather is that there are two water play areas.

One is a simple pump and channel set up while the other is a more full-bodied experience as a large overhead sprinkler whirls around, a lower sprinkler turns and water spurts out from another tall pole.

Bring a change of clothes and a towel, you can’t help getting soaked!

And of course the whole playground is one big sandpit and there’s more ways to move sand around than I can count!

If you’re still not done with the fun just next to the playground is a group of outdoor fitness equipment. Plus an extensive boardwalk for running/walking/riding and of course Sandridge Beach.

At the moment most of the shade is in the two wooden pavilions as the greenery is quite low. The playground has parking but note that it’s a bit of a walk from the main carpark for Sandridge Beach and the Surf Lifesaving Club.

Maritime Cove Community Park is part of the $1.6bn Webb Dock redevelopment and is part of Port of Melbourne’s commitment to create more attractive public spaces. I think they’ve really hit the mark with this imaginative and unique playground.
