Booran Reserve Glen Huntly is the $10.8 million play space in the City of Glen Eira. It has been billed as ‘Melbourne’s best playground’ and has won awards from the 2018 Victorian Landscape Architecture awards to Park of the Year 2018.
The play space is certainly massive and provides stimulating and challenging environments for all ages and abilities.
For older kids there is a HUGE 10m high double dome rope climbing net leading to a looong slide…
….horizontal climbing ropes…
….multiple slides and climbing walls…
….and a double flying fox and swings.
In addition there is a giant bird’s nest swing, a Dutch Disc spinner, in ground trampolines and a super mouse wheel.
An oversized concrete water pipe tunnel provides a sheltered hiding place as well as a sharp drop for daring jumpers.

Artistic features include murals and indigenous elements plus lots of giant frog sculptures.
During hot weather the kids will enjoy the water play elements, which reflect the site’s former use as a water reservoir.
There are two tiered sand pits and an integrated water course with water pumps, an Archimedes screw, weirs and water gates flowing into a rock lined stream.
In another section of the park there is a bigger water play area. It features large and small fountains with trickling areas surrounding stepping stones. You’ll definitely need your bathers and towels!
Reservoir elements include a visually striking, several metre tall section of stone wall on Booran Road (looking like an Egyptian pyramid entrance), and two longer sections of reservoir wall that form a barrier along the back of the park.
Some of the play equipment is shaded but only small sails have been used so they don’t provide too much cover. Once the surrounding trees grow they should provide some natural shade.
In addition the play equipment there are active sports areas such as the basketball hoops and quieter grassy spots for relaxation.
Facilities include picnic shelters and barbecues, water taps and toilets. There’s rumours that the empty shop on the corner of Booran Road and Glen Huntly Road will soon be a cafe, but for the moment there’s an ice cream van making a killing!
Booran Reserve is an impressive playground that’s well worth a special trip. It’s big and interesting enough to capture the attention of kids for a whole day. If the work looks familiar it’s because the designers of Booran Reserve (ACLA Consultants) also designed Buckingham Reserve, Murrumbeena Park, Brimbank Park and the Alma Park treehouse.

- Free parking on street though very limited;
- Take the train to Glen Huntly station — 300 metres away on Glenhuntly Road.
- Take a tram to stop 58 on Glenhuntly Road, which is directly in front of the main entrance to Booran Reserve.
- Take the bus to nearby Neerim Road.
