Casey Fields playground is part of a huge 76-hectare site for outdoor sport in Cranbourne East and it is touted as one of Melbourne’s best playgrounds in the south eastern suburbs.
I have to say, I agree! We enjoy all aspects of the adventure playground and Baby 2.0 fights me hard when we had to leave about 2 hours.
There’s a lot of equipment to explore and we don’t even get to try all of it. Baby 2.0 ignores all the ‘standard’ structures like the swing sets (not even the gated Liberty swing or the nest swing interests him) and heads straight to the top. Literally.
Overlooking the playground space is a high slide lodged in a tree-studded soft-fall mountain (with convenient footholds).
Thanks to the twists in the design it’s not too fast so even little kids will enjoy sliding down it.
Baby 2.0 climbs up many times to slide down then thrusts himself along the bottom stretch of sand joyously. Thrills without the spills!
Along the stretch of sand are also large soft-fall mounds/flattened pyramids with rope bridges suspended between them. Baby 2.0 finds the hillocks quite steep to climb but enjoys traversing the ropes end to end and then dive-bombing into the sandpit below (to my angst).
The long lengths are echoed by a long rope bridge leading to a 6m high spiders web pyramid.

Three-year-old Baby 2.0 is a pretty expert climber but I think this structure is best for 4+ years because the spaces between the ropes are quite large. There are a few times when I notice Baby 2.0 can’t quite reach the next step.
For smaller children, there are three play structures, all surrounded by sand and covered with shade sails. The first is a mini pirate ship complete with steering wheel and binoculars.
The other two structures both include sand play equipment such as scoops, chutes and pulleys as well as slides, ladders and tunnels.
The area has been landscaped with natural elements like the neat forest of trees. There’s also a big kick-about grassy area right next to the play area by the (unfenced) lake. Apparently there is a jetty landing into the lake where you can fish for rainbow trout and interactive art sculptures which we miss.
There are picnic/BBQ shelters, bench seats and water taps on site as well as two toilets with change facilities. Parking is right next to the playground.
Casey Fields Regional Playspace is an amazing playground for young and old. It’s worth a special trip; prepare to spend a couple of hours there!
