HOT: Bayswater Train Park, Bayswater

Bayswater Park with train

Bayswater Train Park at the Marie Wallace Bayswater Park is a huge playground for all ages with lots of unique equipment.  The recent construction of basketball courts and climbing area definitely makes it one of Melbourne’s best playgrounds in the east and worth a special trip.

The highlight of the playground is the full size red train engine and in fact many locals refer to the park as the train park. You can pretend to sell tickets before boarding the engine and ‘driving’ it along the ‘track’.

Other parts of the playground include an extensive wooden fort with musical elements, ropes, bridges, slides.

The double roundabout swing is very popular and is an unusual format for swings.

I like the look of the metal elephant sculpture with slide but the kids spot the other climbing frame first and I can’t convince them to leave. They spend ages climbing the rope frame then whooshing down on the metal slide. It’s surrounded by a sandpit area.

In the new part of the playground you’ll find a rock climbing wall, monkey bars and rope climbs as well as netball rings. Its smooth surface makes it great for bikes and scooters.

Bayswater Train Park

Bayswater Park has numerous picnic tables, sheltered BBQs and public toilets so it’s the perfect destination for a day out. Kids will have hours of fun exploring all the different equipment in the playground.
