Williams Landing is a housing development in Melbourne’s outer west and Ashcroft Park playground, fondly known  as the ‘Control Tower’ playground, is a popular destination for local families. The playground is inspired by the nearby RAAF base and it was recently nominated as one of Melbourne’s best playgrounds in the west.
The centrepiece is an aircraft landing strip leading to a tall control tower.
The tower can be accessed with steps, Â a rope ladder or climbing wall and slides of various heights wind down to an aircraft compass.
The tower also affords views of the surrounding houses.

Baby 2.0 most enjoyed the sand play area, with two diggers, scoops, chutes and pulleys, some springers.
Other equipment includes a pyramid rope climbing frame, stepping stones and spinners.
Slightly away from the playground is a basketball court and a small area with adult fitness equipment which Baby 2.0 also enjoyed climbing.
Under the distinctive curved shelter you’ll find picnic tables and electric BBQs. There are also water taps on site though no toilets. Parking is right next to the playground.
The Williams Landing playground is not so big that it’s worth a special trip but it is a nicely-themed community playground with a variety of unique equipment that distinguishes it from the plastic-fantastic playgrounds you may find elsewhere. Combine it with a visit to Werribee Zoo or Werribee Park for a fun day out.
For another aeroplane-themed playground check out Lance Reichstein Playground.
