This well-established local favourite is one of four Elephant Cafes in Melbourne’s west, and its warm community feel will ensure you have a delightful visit.

The elephant theme is spread throughout the chic decor of Elephant Cafe and the staff are very friendly and attentive.
We love the spacious outdoor dining area which has shade sails, astroturf and play equipment. There’s also plenty of indoor and alfresco seating by the entrance.
Young kids who love to burn energy won’t need to sit still for too long. Here they can get up and play in the small cubby house, or explore various play activities throughout the space.
There are stepping stone blocks for climbing, jumping, or balancing and can be picked up and moved around. There’s a plastic car, a trike and a swing chair too.
All of the play equipment is in easy view of the dining tables within the outdoor space, so parents can enjoy their meal while keeping watch.
The elephant theme continues onto the tasty menu. Whether you’re after a delicious breakfast snack or a hearty burger, the food is fresh – and far from boring. The ‘Stampy Chilli’ and ‘Pyrrhus Pig’ are fun options on the all-day breakfast list. Or if you’ve got an elephant-like appetite you can order the ‘Mammouth Burger’ and get double of each filling for an extra five bucks.
The kids menu features hotcakes, eggs and bacon, a mini burger or nuggets with chips.
You can also order specialty roasted ‘Elephant’s Home Blend’ coffee, as well as fresh juices, smoothies and even alcoholic drinks for those wanting a tipple with lunch.
Other fresh goodies can be selected from the front counter including some sweet treats. Our little E has a dairy and egg allergy, so she was very happy to try some vegan-friendly choc-balls.
Many locals gather at Elephant Cafe for business catch ups, and parents often stop before or after dropping kids off at Newport Gardens Primary School or Early Years Centre across the road.
Located nearby Elephant Cafe is the Altona Miniature Railway which is open on every 3rd Sunday of the month. We highly recommend making a day of it, with a ride on the miniature steam and diesel engines before or after your visit to the cafe.
The Elephant Cafe business model has been so successful there are sister cafes on Ferguson Street in Williamstown and Mt Alexander Rd in Flemington which share the same menu and family-friendly vibe, as well as Baby Elephant tucked away in Footscray. All worth a visit.
Highchairs are available and there’s a baby change table in the toilets.
There is plenty of free street parking available, or a short 2-minute walk to the Mason Street bus stop.
