Queens Park Moonee Ponds | Melbourne Playground with cafe

Queens Park Moonee Ponds is a pretty Edwardian style park with a lake, flat walking tracks, bandstand, summer swimming pool and bowls club.

Queens Park is a popular location for community gatherings, picnics and gentle strolls for young and old.

All the paths are accessible, wheelchair and pram-friendly as they are wide and flat. The main route encircles Queens Park Lake and then branches off to various other parts of the park, but you can walk the whole place in around 30 minutes.

Visit the Burke and Wills sculptures (Queens Park Moonee Ponds was the first stop from Melbourne on their ill-fated journey)…

..and look out for a mosaic celebrating the Queens Park lake’s famous residents.

Remember – don’t feed the ducks and other wildlife!

Some paths are beautifully shaded by huge trees too and in Autumn the leaves falling make for great leaf-jumping fun!

Queens Park Moonee Ponds Cafe

While the Queen’s Park playground is not particularly large or new, it gets a workout because it’s one of the few playgrounds with cafe facilities in Melbourne’s inner north-west suburbs.

There is also a smaller playground on the other side of the lake which is great for toddlers.

Curator’s Collective cafe in Queens Park is open 7 days a week of breakfast, lunch and snacks.

Queens Park also has BBQ facilities if you want to BYO food to cook or lay out a picnic blanket for a leisurely picnic.

Brother Hen and The Ascot Lot are other eateries which are walking distance from Queens Park.

Queens Park Moonee Ponds Pool

The Queens Park Moonee Ponds swimming pool is an outdoor pool that’s open during the summer months only, end of November to March generally.

There’s a 50m lap pool, a smaller pool and a toddler wading pool with plastic frog slide structure.

Queens Park Moonee Ponds Events

Queens Park is a favourite location for the City of Moonee Valley’s community events such as Carols by Candlelight. During popular times parking can be difficult to find, though there are free timed spots along Mt Alexander Road and The Strand Moonee Ponds.
