[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]The whole family can get into the spirit of the AFL Grand Final week by visiting the FREE AFL Footy Festival at Yarra Park outside the MCG.
The event showcases Melbourne’s food, music and footy with lots of free activities to keep the kids amused for a good half-day.
The Toyota AFL Grand Final Live Site is open from 9am and features player appearances, different stalls giveaways and food trucks and bars under the Ferris Wheel.
Kids have a whole Milo Kids Zone dedicated to them! It’s also open from 9am and I recommend getting there as early as possible. The crowds and lines grow as the day goes on.
Inside the Kids Zone you can do free activities such as racing through the giant inflatable obstacle course; take a speccy in the 360 photobooth and meet AFL and AFLW players (as well as these giant players!).
Of course there’s an area where you can learn and practice your football skills, including the AFL Auskick Skill Challenge.
If you’re hungry Woolworths provide free fruit in the Kids Zone or try something from the Taste of Footy precinct filled with some of Melbourne’s most iconic food, bites and beverages.

- entry is free;
- parking is hard to find, street parking is normally limited to 1 hour or a small number of 2 hour paid parking spots;
- nearest train station Jolimont or tram #48 and #75;
- wear shoes that are easy to take on and off if kids are likely to want to go on inflatables;
- ground can get muddy so don’t wear your best shoes;
- take a reusable shopping bag so you can carry all the free paraphernalia you collect from the stands; and
- take water, hat, sunscreen – not many water taps around as far as I could see.
