Ballarat is one of Victoria’s major regional centres in the heart of the Goldfields region and a magnificent regional town for families. The 1.5-hour drive from Melbourne means it’s doable in a day – but with so many things to do and places to eat it’s worthwhile enjoying a longer stay.

Here are our ideas for kids activities along with family-friendly tips for a weekend away to Ballarat.

**For the winter school holidays make Ballarat your family getaway destination – find out what’s on for the annual Ballarat Winter Festival.**

The Art Gallery of Ballarat is the oldest and largest gallery in regional Australia. During school holidays they run kids activities and workshops, and sometimes there are sessions for families during school term too.

We loved our visit to Eliza-Jane Gilchrist’s Strange Garden (no longer showing) and her intricate cardboard-based sculptures. Here, we participated in an unfacilitated experience to make our own cardboard garden creations.

9. Yorkdale Estate Central Park

Yorkdale Estate Central Park has a substantial playground by Adventure+.

The playground’s most obvious feature is a 6 metre tower with an enclosed slide. There are plenty of play opportunities for younger and older kids, with monkey bars, additional slides, rock seesaws and a sandpit with digger.

Picnic tables make it a great spot for family gatherings, and trees have now grown to provide natural shade. There are also grassy spaces to kick a ball or throw a frisbee.

Best to go to the toilet and fill water bottles before visiting, as there are none available at the park.

*Bonus* Sanctuary Day Spa

Ballarat’s Sanctuary day spa is *not* a family-friendly location but I’ve added it here as a bonus addition in case you find yourself in Ballarat without kids.

It’s one of the best day spas in Regional Victoria that you can visit in a day trip from Melbourne and has won numerous awards at the World Spa Awards.

The Ballarat day spa is located within the gardens of the Mercure Hotel and Convention Centre and features six luxury treatment rooms including two dual suites, private bathing, a floating pedicure lounge, a relaxation lounge with an open fireplace and The Sanctuary with a sauna and heated hydrotherapy pool.

You can visit just The Sanctuary casually depending on capacity (though guests having treatments are given priority).

18. L’Espresso

L’Espresso serves the best coffee in Ballarat (so I’m told, I don’t drink coffee!) and the food was pretty good. But note while I see plenty of families brunching, the venue can be too squishy and dark with young children who want to move around!

20. The Hydrant Food Hall

Take a trip down a narrow laneway to an old fire hydrant shop and find yourself in a spacious cafe. At Hydrant Food Hall the food is excellent, with a nod to trends while staying true to the seasons and local produce.

There’s space for pram access, lots of high chairs, a fun kids menu (rainbow pancakes!) and you can purchase a kids’ activity pack for $2.50. There is also an accessible toilet with a fold-out change table.

Unfortunately, the cubby house and chalkboard that was present a few years ago are no longer available.

23. Hop Temple

As the name suggests, Hop Temple has a very extensive beer menu.  But they also have a food menu with plenty of snacks, pizzas and mains like fried chicken and burgers.

Hop Temple is a family friendly venue, but as they do hold trivia nights and other events it’s best to see what’s going on prior to visiting to avoid loud crowds.

Where to stay in Ballarat

Whenever I’m looking for family-friendly accommodation I like to research on Stayz and Booking.com. There are lots of places to choose from, so here are my recommendations for places to stay in Ballarat that either I have stayed at or my trusted friends have booked.

30. Lascelles Terrace

Lascelles Ballarat consists of two grand Victorian terraces with luxe, boutique accommodation right in the heart of the Ballarat.

Located in Errard Street North, Ballarat Central, it is within easy walking distance to the Ballarat CBD, cafes, restaurants and even the lake and heritage precincts. Sovereign Hill is a 7 minute drive and Kryal Castle is 14 minutes away.

Both houses have been lovingly restored with a modern and contemporary overlay. All the townhouses feature luxury bedding with electric blankets, extensive zoned heating throughout, fully equipped kitchens, modern fixtures, large screen smart televisions with Netflix and blu-ray DVD players.

Lascelles Terraces Ballarat

I stayed in the 6-bedroom house with some friends and found the rooms to be very comfortable, with excellent amenities in the living areas – and it fulfilled our criteria of having a fireplace for quiet reading!

The Grand Terrace includes a master suite, dining room seating for 12, contemporary kitchen, two bathrooms and rear sunroom overlooking a private outdoor entertaining area with a beautiful garden and firepit.

Enjoy free Wi-Fi and free off-street parking too.

This stay welcomes house trained pets (ideally hypoallergenic) of most sizes and breeds. Maximum of 2 pets allowed per booking and are only permitted on prior arrangement.

Lascelles Ballarat

31. House at No.10 Ballarat

House at No. 10 is a centrally located Ballarat accommodation with free WiFi, air conditioning, a patio with garden views and barbecue facilities. We don’t use the outdoor area much as we visit in winter, but it’s great to have the option.

The holiday home has 3 bedrooms, a flat-screen TV, an equipped kitchen with a dishwasher and a microwave, a washing machine, and 2 bathrooms with a shower. The beds are *super* comfortable, you might just not want to leave.

The house is light and spacious and spreading out over three bedrooms means the two kids don’t have to share a bedroom (which they don’t normally), thus avoiding arguments!

You’ll also find games for the kids and even a piano!

32. Ballarat Premier Apartments

Just around the corner from House at No. 10 is Ballarat Premier Apartments in central Ballarat. Originally built in 1901, the property offers accommodation featuring Victorian-era décor that’s been renovated to modern standards.

This restored hotel offers self-contained 1, 2 and 3-bedroom apartments and deluxe rooms.

The rooms have a refrigerator and a sofa. Most accommodation features a kitchen or kitchenette. Some suites also boast a fireplace, a spa bath or a balcony. The Heritage rooms are just stunning and each features a grand chandelier.

33. Gordon Bush Retreat

Lady AB wanted to stay in a caravan so I found Gordon Bush Retreat on Airbnb. It offers not just one, but two caravans on the same bush block – which means no sharing with noisy kids!

As it’s a family’s holiday ‘house’ there is a swing, trampoline and a full camp kitchen. Note the toilet and bath are outdoors so the accommodation may not suit very young children.

The waves are always pumping at URBNSURF, Australia’s first surf park! The huge facility in Tullamarine, close to Melbourne airport, offers Melburnians and visitors a crystal-clear, MCG-sized surfing lagoon.

For a start, they offer lessons and surfing sessions, with 30 participants booked into each side of the big wave pool lagoon. Surfers should book ahead, and spectators are most welcome to hang out on the foreshore, staying behind the yellow line.

With a premium restaurant and bar overlooking the pool, plus a playground and shaded sun lounges, this is a wonderful destination for surf-loving families and groups.

The nitty gritty details are available from URBNSURF‘s website so you can get inside and enjoy your session.

URBNSURF Amy Gardner images ()

What is URBNSURF?

URBNSURF Melbourne uses Wavegarden’s next-generation Cove technology in its surfing lagoon to deliver high-quality, authentic surfing waves every hour, day and night, year-round. Yes, unlike at a surf beach you can now surf at night, thanks to some huge stadium.

A while ago we were invited to try out URBNSURF as complete surfing novices. It turns out that learning to surf at URBNSURF is even better than learning at the beach!

Why is learning to surf at URBNSURF even better than learning at the beach?

Firstly, the pool is segregated by beginner, intermediate and advanced zones and the waves are controlled by a push of a button. The size, shape, power and frequency of the waves can be adjusted to suit all abilities, from first-timers through to elite athletes. That means for our beginner group you aren’t constantly being barraged by waves – there’s time to take a break, listen to instructions and catch your breath before the next wave.

Secondly, the water is shallow at the learner’s end and there are no mystery creatures or foliage hiding under the water. Kids can easily stand their ground as they wait their turn on the board.

Thirdly, the facilities at URBNSURF make the before and after surfing experience more convenient than a beach. Spectators can hang out on a day bed by the water’s edge and you can set up home base inside a bookable cabana.

URBNSURF Amy Gardner images

Can I get equipment and food at URBNSURF?

Yes you can!  The food, store and change room facilities are top notch.

And the best part? The surf shop and hire store are right there, the food options are right there, the hot outdoor showers and change rooms are right there. No trekking gear up and down the beach or making a sandy mess in the car.

URBNSURF Amy Gardner images

Dining at Three Blue Ducks

URBNSURF Melbourne is home to Melbourne’s first restaurant operations by Sydney-based Three Blue Ducks. They serve delicious, healthy breakfast, lunch and dinner and beverages all year round, with views of the lagoon.

Expect smoky flavours and locally-sourced produce cooked in the pizza oven, rotisserie and charcoal pit. The kids menu features tasty and hearty meals like half a roast chicken, penne pasta, crumbed fish and a cheeseburger.

You can visit Three Blue Ducks without paying to surf at URBNSURF. A great option for families or groups to enjoy the lively atmosphere, have a play at the playground and watch the surfers doing their thing.

URBNSURF kids burger Amy Gardner images

What else can you do at URBNSURF?

Other lagoon-side amenities include a children’s playground, hot tubs (for a sort of apres-ski experience!) and various landscaped spaces to relax and enjoy the view. I reckon URBNSURF is a perfect venue for birthday parties and group gatherings!

My kids enjoyed the playground and sandpit, watching the surfers up-close from the spectator viewing point and lounging by beach pool. Aeroplane fans will be happy as you can regularly spot giant aircraft coming in to land.

A concrete path surrounds the lagoon wave pool, and my kids brought their scooters for extra fun. Just note that children must be supervised at all times.

URBNSURF Amy Gardner images ()

Do we need to take a lesson?

If you are a beginner surfer then I strongly recommend that you sign up at the Surf Academy for lessons. All beginners, whether they are kids or adults, are normally taught together – but depending on numbers the children and adults may be split up into separate groups. Lessons start for children from 6+ years.

We start off by going into the hire store to put on our wetsuits (you can BYO equipment too). There are wetsuits for all seasons, as the water is not heated. The reason is that the amount of energy required to heat such a huge body of water would be unsustainable.

The lessons last for 1 hour 45 minutes, with a briefing on land where everyone practices their stance and balance first before spending approximately 30 minutes in the water.

There are two instructors with the group – one to push the kids onto the wave and one to catch them at the other end (and warn them to get off the board at the black line).

I am amazed that both Lady AB and Baby 2.0 are able to stand on their boards for short periods by the end of their first lesson. In fact, all the children are successful to varying degrees.

If you do not want to take lessons then you can book to surf in a one-hour block.

Note that URBNSURF is a surf park and not a wave pool. You cannot pay just to go splash in the water. Young children can take a soft board or bodyboard to play in the knee-high rolling waves in The Bays and need to be supervised by an adult at all times.

URBNSURF is an amazing facility that caters to beginners through to pros. It provides consistent, perfect waves day in day out, which means for keen surfers you’re not as beholden to the weather gods. I’m also told that because the waves keep coming there is less alpha-male posturing in the lineup compared to a beach, as everyone knows that they’ll get a go. This means that it’s arguably less intimidating for female surfers to share waves.

Get ready to #SurfMore all through the year at URBNSURF! Be sure to book prior to your visit as the pool can only accommodate a maximum of 60 surfers at any time.

A reader’s question inspired this post – the best things to do and places to go with toddlers, crawlers and babies in Melbourne!

Laura B reminded me of how hard it is to find age-appropriate activities for toddlers and babies in Melbourne.

She asked “We’re spending a long weekend in Melbourne this weekend coming with our ten-month-old twins. Any suggestions on things we can do with them – they will be in their pram but very curious about the world around them and love a good crawl around?”

Things to do with Toddlers and Babies in Melbourne CBD

1. Artplay, Melbourne CBD

Artplay is a City of Melbourne-funded children’s art studio and they run free and paid workshops and events for children 0-12 years. Lady AB’s first trip to Artplay was at 7 months old.

New toddler and baby activities pop up every month, so be sure to check their website regularly to find fun activities for kids in Melbourne.

Next to Artplay is the Artplay playground. It is generally more suited to older kids (and can be overrun by school kids on excursions) but babies will enjoy the sandpit, baby swings and Mali the elephant.

2. Sea Life Melbourne Aquarium, Melbourne CBD

A trip to Sea Life Melbourne is another thing to add to your list of things to do with a toddler. Babies are fascinated by fish and at Melbourne Aquarium you can get up close to sea life big and small. Under 3s get free entry!

If you’re a regular visitor then a membership (perhaps a combined membership with Legoland as part of the Merlin Annual Pass) might be worthwhile.

One of my go-to things to do in the city for kids, is an outing to the Pauline Gandel Children’s Quarter within the State Library of Victoria.

Make the most of free weekly story time sessions, drop-in craft activities, and interactive play areas designed to spark imagination and creativity. Including fun and stimulating activities for babies and toddlers!

With dedicated spaces for fostering a love for reading, this children’s quarter offers a magical experience for families in the heart of Melbourne.

Step into the fascinating world of visual storytelling at ACMI’s exhibition, “The Story of the Moving Image.” From ancient shadow puppets to cutting-edge virtual reality, families can explore the evolution of film, television, and digital media.

Little ones can engage with interactive displays, create their own animations, and play retro arcade games. Toddler activities and a Pre-schooler Program run throughout the year with both free entry and ticketed events.

Entry is free for NGV’s two branches at Federation Square and St Kilda Road. Both galleries generally have at least one or two family-friendly exhibitions.

There are also regular art programs for 2-5 year olds called NGV Under 5s.

The Gallery Kitchen and Sculpture Park at NGV International are also great family-friendly hangouts. We’ll often grab a picnic and eat on the lawn if we’re in the CBD, even if we don’t visit the rest of the gallery.

It’s so much fun for toddlers to experience a bit of the country in the city, and watch the cows being milked, pat the goats and chase chickens.

Ready for some old-fashioned family fun? Luna Park Melbourne is an iconic amusement park on the St Kilda foreshore and its laughing mouth entrance is on many a Melbourne postcard.

Every time we visit St Kilda the kids plead to go inside the ‘big scary mouth’ – otherwise known as Mr Moon mouth.

Luna Park Rides

Luna Park Melbourne offers a carnival-like atmosphere at all times of the year. It’s big enough to keep kids entertained for a whole day, but if your kids are old enough it’s also small enough for them to roam around freely while you relax at ‘home base’.

luna park melbourne

The iconic Scenic Railway and Carousel are probably the two ‘must-do’ rides at Luna Park. The Scenic Railway is the world’s oldest continually operating wooden rollercoaster and the views from up the top are magnificent!

luna park melbourne

Having said that, my kids favourite ride is the Spider.

luna park melbourne

Other more low-key rides include the Ferris Wheel and dodgem cars.

luna park melbourne

Note there are height restrictions on rides, with some rides only available for kids taller than 110cm, 120cm or 130cm. Sometimes an adult can accompany a shorter child on a particular ride.

Luna Park Melbourne Events

Depending on the season you can also enjoy other events such as Christmas in July, a giant Easter Egg Hunt or Halloween.

Melbourne Images Anna Klova px

While Luna Park is a popular attraction in summer thanks to its beachside location, I actually think that visiting during the cooler months is a better time.

Luna Park Melbourne Images Anna Klova px

Fewer people means fewer lines…and the more energetic rides will definitely keep you warm!

luna park melbourne

During the winter school holidays, Luna Park often celebrates Christmas in July with Christmas decorations. On weekends you can expect fake snowfalls, Santa will be available for photo opportunities and there are chocolate balls galore. Plus Santa’s Elves gather kids around for Santa’s special Storytelling Sessions.

On our recent visit to the Christmas activation it ran for about 15 minutes so if you miss the hourly slot, you’ll have to wait for the next hour. The set-up is fun for junior kids but older kids may find it a bit kitsch.

Luna Park Melbourne Food

Unlike many amusement parks, you can bring your own food and water, unlike other amusement parks I’ve visited.

You can buy food from the fairy floss stand and the diner caravan. Parties are hosted in the vintage tram!

Luna Park Melbourne Tickets

Luna Park is one of the must-do activities that every Melburnian needs to visit at least once.

It you only want to go on a few rides then a single-ride ticket will suffice, or go nuts and get unlimited rides for better value for money.

Experience Oz Luna Park Melbourne

HOT Tips:

  • If you want to enter Luna Park Melbourne without going on any rides there’s a $5 entry fee. There is no entry fee for children 3 years and under.
  • You can upgrade to a ride ticket anytime.
  • Luna Park ride tickets must be purchased from the ticket office at the entrance. You can buy single ride tickets or get an unlimited ride wristband.
  • Buy your tickets online and you have 12 months to use them.
  • All ride tickets include the $5 entry fee.
  • Annual passes are available $120 any age.
  • There are height restrictions on rides, with some rides only available for kids taller than 110cm, 120cm or 130cm. Sometimes an adult can accompany a shorter child on a particular ride.
  • You can bring your own food and drinks or purchase food from the vendors.
  • Note that there’s not a lot of shelter, so bring sunscreen and hats in summer and warm clothes in winter.
  • All paths are pram accessible;
  • Closest parking is at Beaconsfield Parade, Jacka Boulevard and the carparks near Palais Theatre. It’s $5.40 per hour or $12.40 for the whole day. Credit card payment available;

Tesselaar Kabloom is back for 2024 with an enchanting Flower Circus spin!

The festival of flowers is open every day of the Autumn school holidays and Easter Break, from Saturday, 23 March to Sunday, 21 April 2024. It’s a wonderful day out for the whole family.

Tesselaar Kabloom 9 8

When is the Kabloom Flower Festival in 2024?

The Kabloom Festival Flowers 2024 will be held from 23 March to Sunday, 21 April 2024.

Tesselaar Kabloom Festival

We have been attending the Tesselaar Kabloom Festival every year since it started and it just gets better and better! There are lots of activities and things to do and see included in the entry fee – and the best thing is that kids under 16 years are free!

Tesselaar Kabloom 2 15

Be ready to enter a world of floral enchantment, where millions of blooms cover five breathtaking acres in the picturesque Dandenong Ranges.

PRO TIP: Tickets for the Autumn Fever Weeks (25 -28 March and 15-19 April) are discounted and offer a tranquil escape outside of the school holiday rush.

Tesselaar Kabloom 8 9

Step into a realm of fantasy and enchantment at the Bespoke Flower Circus, a captivating highlight of Tesselaar KaBloom Festival.

Watch in awe as flower fairies, sprites, and pixies come to life among the vibrant blooms, weaving a tapestry of magic and wonder.

Tesselaar Kabloom 6 13

Be mesmerised by the dazzling performances of Circus Oz artists, who will thrill and entertain with their daring acts and acrobatics.

The Enchanted Flower Picnic is performed three times daily (excluding 25-27/3, 2/4, 8-9/4 & 15-16/4).

In addition, families can enjoy stunning theatrics from roaming performers, and participate in circus workshops, drumming, and fairy garden storytelling.

Tesselaar Kabloom 4 12

Take in the picturesque surroundings, play lawn games, complete the obstacle course, and hop on a tractor-train guided tour of the farm.

You can purchase or hire large rainbow umbrellas and ‘Queen’s croquet’ games for free at the Flower Shop and Souvenir Shop; just leave a driver’s licence as security.

To fully immerse your little ones in the fun of fantasy, head to the face painting, and fairy craft sessions.

Tesselaar Kabloom 3 14

Make a day of it by bringing your own picnic or purchasing food and drinks from the market stalls. Try the Kabloom special ice cream ‘Fire and Ice’ with a swirl of dragonfruit and vanilla soft serve topped with sprinkles and lollies.

Note that there are no barbecues. There is a scatter of plastic tables and chairs around or bring a sturdy picnic rug as the red soil can get muddy very quickly.

Tesselaar Kabloom 10 7

Kabloom Festival of Flowers is a lovely way to spend a sunny day in the Dandenong Ranges. We spend almost three hours there, soaking in the scenery and the atmosphere.

Make sure you pick up some beautiful blooms on your way home!

Getting to Tesselaar KaBloom Festival by public transport is fairly easy and convenient. From Belgrave Station, there are shuttle services available during the festival period.

For those driving to the festival, it takes around an hour from Melbourne and there is ample car parking available on-site. Additionally, there are designated drop-off and pick-up points for those arriving by taxi or rideshare services.

Tesselaar Kabloom 1 16

TIPS FOR TESSELAAR KABLOOM FESTIVAL 2024

  • Arrive early at 10am so that you can take pictures without crowds of people in the way.
  • Also, available parking is much closer and the tours groups don’t tend to arrive right at 10am;
  • Buy your tickets online in advance to avoid queues;
  • Some activities require pre-booking and additional costs, check the website for further information;
  • Midday is peak hour;
  • Wear gumboots and easily washed clothes. The red clay gets muddy very quickly with the number of people walking around and the dirt marks everything. White sneakers, high heels and sandals are not a good idea!;
  • Take a jacket for the strong breeze that rolls into the valley;
  • If you can, try to avoid taking a pram or stroller. Given the crowds and soggy ground conditions it’s really best enjoyed by children who are able to walk steadily;
  • If your kids are old enough, give them a phone camera to experiment with. The flowers are stunning and it’s hard to take a bad shot;
  • Expect to spend 3+ hours with all the activities on offer;
  • Note that you can’t pick the flowers yourself, but purchase a beautiful bunch to take home with you on your way out;
  • Tickets for the Autumn Fever Weeks (25 -28 March and 15-19 April) are discounted and offer a tranquil escape outside of the school holiday rush;
  • Family-friendly amenities include stroller hire, baby-change facilities, restrooms and quiet areas for nursing or resting with young children;
  • The festival has designated areas with trained staff to assist in case of emergencies and lost children, ensuring a safe and secure environment for families;
  • A variety of food vendors with options for different dietary needs, including kid-friendly meals and snacks to keep young ones satisfied throughout the day;
  • We highly recommend the festival special ‘Fire and Ice’ ice cream;
  • Visit the Flower Shop and Souvenir Shop;
  • If traveling by train, shuttle services run throughout the day from Belgrave Station;
  • Plenty of car parking onsite.

If you’re looking for the perfect spot to recharge with a cup of Joe while the little ones let loose, look no further.

As parents, we’re all on the quest for that magical place where our love for good coffee can seamlessly coexist with our kids’ boundless energy.

Enter Fifteen Bar, run by Nicole and Ashley, the dynamic duo behind Sunbury’s beloved Krash & Co. From sourcing goods from local suppliers to organising neighbourhood events, they’re continuing the tradition established by Krash & Co.

Fifteen Bar Cafe Amy Gardner images

First things first – the outdoor playground is a game-changer!

Picture yourself enjoying a creamy cappuccino while the kiddos let their imaginations run wild in the spacious outdoor play area.

Fifteen Bar Cafe Amy Gardner images

Complete with two cubbies, a sandpit, hopscotch, fake turf, a ride-in car, and other outdoor toys, this fully fenced playspace is suitable for children of all ages. There’s a shade cloth over parts of the area, too.

While the playground is separate from the cafe dining area, there are several tables within view of the space. Some bench seats are located within the fenced play area, to accommodate any adults supervising.

Fifteen Bar Cafe Amy Gardner images

Now, let’s talk about the brunch menu at Fifteen Bar. It’s designed to satisfy both grown-up cravings and the discerning taste buds of our little ones.

We recommend hearty classics like eggs benedict to the tasty waffles with ice cream dripping with syrup. Parents of pint-sized gourmands will love the kids’ menu and best of all, with any adult meal you get a kid’s meal for free!

Fifteen Bar Cafe Amy Gardner images

Whether seated indoors or out, Fifteen Bar’s ambiance is warm and inviting. The staff, with their friendly smiles and attentive service, go above and beyond to make us feel at home.

We are provided with books and colouring activities at our table, offered high chairs, and asked about dietary requirements. Thank you, Dom, for looking after our family!

Fifteen Bar Cafe Amy Gardner images

Fifteen Bar Cafe is located in the heart of Diggers Rest, 40 minutes out of Melbourne CBD off the Calder Freeway. There is plenty of car parking available onsite.

Whilst out that way, combine your trip with some local family activities such as a visit to Animal Land Children’s Farm or Organ Pipes National Park. Both are within a short drive on the way to or from your stop at Fifteen Bar.

Little Growling Cafe in Tarneit isn’t your average suburban coffee spot! It’s a fun destination where you can sip, play and repeat.

With its blend of fantastic coffee, delicious food, and a play area that sparks the imagination, Little Growling Cafe is a go-to spot for families if you’re heading out to Melbourne’s west.

It’s owned by locals Rashi and Divyang, and their passion is for delivering not just great coffee but an experience that puts a smile on every visitor’s face.

Then there’s the playground attached to the cafe! More on The Grove Playground below.

Most of the tables have a view of the play areas, especially those outdoors (which are shaded with umbrellas).

Little Growling Cafe px

Little Growling Cafe Menu

Little Growling Cafe offers a diverse range of drinks – from a rich cappuccino, a refreshing iced tea, or a velvety hot chocolate.

The food menu features options such as the ever-popular eggs benedict and a selection of burgers, bruschetta and toasties.

The little ones are not left out, with a dedicated kids’ menu offering delightful choices like eggs, pancakes, toasties, and that timeless nuggets and chips combo. Little E’s all-time favourite!

Two in-ground trampolines invite gleeful bouncing, while the spinner and hammock swing add a delightful twist to traditional play.

Little Growling Cafe px

The thrill-seekers can zip-line through the air on the flying fox and conquer the giant tunnel slide.

For younger kids, there’s a smaller slide with soft play footing.

Little Growling Cafe px

Then there are stepping stones, a rope climbing structure, and balance beams that challenge and engage, fostering both physical activity and skill development.

The grass and garden area, coupled with a fully-fenced design, provides a secure space for play.

Cool off with free water play at a water park near you in Melbourne and Regional Victoria!

All of these parks with water play are free to visit except for the ones located in the zoos. I’ve still included them because as a Zoos Victoria member you get unlimited entry for 12 months.

Also note that water jets are not always turned on so it’s worth calling ahead (if possible) to check.
