[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]Fashion illustrators Mads Francis and Sarah Darby have popped up at the Como Centre with Creative Hub; a fairy-floss-pink space brightening up the corner of Toorak Road and Chapel Street.
Creative Hub invites creators of all ages to enter and either learn, purchase or simply make fun content via free activities, merchandise, custom portraits and paid workshops. It’s open until 28 September 2018.
As a local parent, we are very familiar with the free and fun offerings for little ones around the City of Stonnington in the form of the library and parks in our area. What has been missing, however, is a space where kids can simply create.
Creative Hub fills this gap, presenting an opportunity for carers and kids to bond in a creative space.
Creative Hub captures eyes from metres away; Sarah and Mads have cleverly dressed the windows with their fashion illustrations of the most celebrated fashionistas of the social media age!
Not only do the windows look fabulous from the outside but they are one-way, meaning that the stickers do not obstruct the view of the street from the inside – genius!
The space is open to all ages and little ones will be best assisted by a supervising adult. It is easy for prams to enter the space and park before exploring the rest of the space on foot.
A trestle table is front and centre inviting all entrants to sit down (or in Toddler Explorer’s case, stand up on a chair!) and make use of the textas, glitter glue and embellishments to decorate a mosaic of paper which you can then post up on the collective wall. It is a fun and free activity that Toddler Explorer enjoys immensely, scribbling away to her heart’s content. I also have fun decorating my own mosaic while watching little one from the corner of my eye!
Older children may like the opportunity of using a camera or a phone to create content within the highly Instagram-able fairy-floss interiors which include photogenic photobooths.
The Balloon Room is the supreme drawcard for Toddler Explorer. The top level of the Creative Hub has been decked out with saccharine décor including balloons of all sizes in more of the space’s signature fairy floss pink. Adults are reminded to supervise littlies who will no doubt enjoy rolling around a whole room full of balloons!
The pop-up will host a series of paid workshops mainly aimed at older creatives (aka adults) but also includes “Paper Dolls” for kids aged 6-11 years old. Inspired by the story by Julia Donaldson, Sarah Darby will help you create your own string of paper dolls with their own look and personality. All materials provided and parents must be contactable and remain in the area. Paper Doll workshops will be held at Creative Space at 10am-12pm on Tuesday, 25th September, Wednesday, 26th September and Friday, 28th September.
A selection of artworks by illustrators is available for sale in the form of art prints, customised clothing and gift cards. Or you can BE the artwork and book yourself in a for a 30-minute live illustration with either Mads or Sarah!
Also expect to see a special collection of artworks Sarah Darby is creating especially with children’s bedroom décor in mind.
Highly photogenic, inside and out –Creative Hub is a refreshing addition to the Chapel Street precinct, providing a delightful experience for anyone interested in fashion and creativity!
