National Gallery of Victoria‘s latest children’s gallery exhibition ‘New York! New York! For Kids‘ is all about New York City – the home of the Museum of Modern Art MoMA.
To coincide with the 2018 Melbourne Winter masterpieces exhibition MoMA at NGV: 130 Years of Modern and Contemporary Art MoMA at NGV, NGV presents New York! New York! For Kids. It’s a fun and free children’s gallery exhibition all about New York City.
New York! New York! For Kids is a small but fun hands-on exhibition that showcases New York City and its many buildings, streets, icons and personalities.
At the entrance there are a group of screens set against a backdrop of New York’s famous grid street system. At each screen kids can take part in Let’s Go to New York City! a multimedia quiz about the city. As you get each answer correct you can collect digital souvenirs.
Once inside children are immersed in a panoramic projection of New York from day into night.
In the centre of the space there are four activity stations.
There are two stations where children can stack New York themed blocks to endlessly create and recreate buildings and streetscapes.
The custom-designed blocks are super cool and I wish they sold them in the NGV Design shop!
Younger kids will enjoy rolling balls through the city streets in a New York themed marble run.
Finally there’s a fun photo booth set against a backdrop of Manhattan’s skyline!
At the gift shop don’t forget to pick up your copy of My Modern Art Book for kids, inspired by the works of modern and contemporary art in MoMA at NGV: 130 Years of Modern and Contemporary Art.
During the first week of the July school holidays the Great Hall will host ’Modern Drawing’ free drop-by drawing activities inspired by the exhibition.
