Melbourne icon Eureka Skydeck has had a multi-million-dollar redevelopment, with a new brand and new name – say hello to the Melbourne Skydeck!
If you’ve never visited Melbourne Skydeck or wondering whether Melbourne Skydeck is worth visiting again, I’m here to give you a rundown of what there is to do at Melbourne Skydeck as part of the revamped heightened experience.
This 300-metre tall building is now open with delicious food, new attractions, family activities and more.
Perhaps the most anticipated attraction is the brand new virtual reality theatre on the bottom level. It is the first of its kind in the Southern hemisphere and the largest in the world.
The Melbourne Skydeck Voyager Theatre is a virtual reality theatre with 24 Positron chairs. Each person sits and spins in the chair while the headset showcases a custom super 8K high definition film that will take you through 16 iconic Melbourne and Victorian experiences complemented by sounds, scent and movement.
It’s really quite amazing – you smell the trees of the Redwood Forest, swoop up and down the Scenic Railway at Luna Park and get close to the tennis action at the Australian Open.
It really makes you proud to be a Melburnian!
Outside the VR theatre is a finely detailed augmented reality 1:1100 3D scale model of Melbourne that displays eight periods of the city’s development, through the use of six digital tablets surrounding the model.
You can use these tablets as interactive windows that will take you on a journey from pre-settlement through to 2020 and beyond. The interactive model also includes data and information about boundaries and land ownership, making it the most deeply detailed 3D model of Melbourne anywhere.
By downloading and using the new Melbourne Skydeck app, you’ll see the model come to life! The app also includes a virtual treasure hunt and guests who find all 31 hidden markers can claim a Melbourne Skydeck gift on departure.
Melbourne Skydeck The Edge
If you’re not afraid of heights and want to see Melbourne from a unique perspective, test your nerve by taking on the Edge, a world-first transparent cube suspended almost 300 metres above Melbourne’s streets.
Melbourne Skydeck The Plank
While you’re there why not take on The Plank, a virtual reality experience that ends with a thrilling virtual plunge and zipline ride.
It’s a fun experience – even though you know that the plank is on the floor and there’s no risk of falling off, the VR means that you’re still walking along it carefully as if you’re high above the ground. They’ve even added a slight wobble to make it more realistic!
Melbourne Skydeck Bar 88
To cap off you’re Melbourne Skydeck experience you can grab a drink and a bit to eat at Bar 88 which is operated by the team from Eureka 89.
The bar offers a wide range of champagnes, wines, spirits, and more served with cheese plates and other freshly made savoury snacks.Â
The bar’s location features window-ledge seating right around the deck where you can see the most stunning views of Melbourne.
Melbourne Skydeck Price
Melbourne Skydeck is open 7 days a week from 12 pm to 10 pm with tickets costing $29.50 per adult and $19.50 per child and will give access to the Skydeck on level 88, the Melbourne 3-D interactive model and Bar 88.
The Voyager Theatre, Edge and Plank Experiences are an additional cost and can be added when purchasing tickets.
