Giant Steps Yarra Valley is a high-end restaurant and cellar door based in Healesville. Depending on the age of your children it’s still a space that accommodates kids, with pram access and high chairs available.

You can’t miss the huge Giant Steps frontage on the main street of Healesville.

The glamorous decor doesn’t immediately shout ‘child-friendly’ but wood-fired pizza does appear on the menu, the all-day kitchen means you can eat as early or late as you need to suit the kids and high chairs are available.

Just BYO toys/colouring-in so the kids can remain amused while you enjoy your lunch or dinner.

On the way to the bathrooms check out the windows showing the wine production in operation.

The kids share a wood-fired margherita pizza with Shaw River buffalo mozzarella, San Marzano tomato, basil and olive oil ($24).

I try the generously proportioned Spanner crab and avocado salad with coconut, lime, chilli, coriander and eschallots ($32).

For dessert, we share the chocolate nemesis cake with honeycomb ($16). It’s a dense flourless chocolate cake and very rich, so a small serve between three people is about right.

Giant Steps Yarra Valley is a stylish location for a special occasion lunch or dinner with children in Healesville. On busy days bookings are recommended.

Across the carpark from Giant Steps is the more relaxed Innocent Bystander, which may be a suitable option if Giant Steps is booked out.
