Indoors, the cafe can be a bit squashy as it gets busy, but there are outdoor tables available streetside or in the upper level courtyard leading to the bathrooms.

If the kids won’t allow you to eat-in then make sure you take away some of their famous croissants, pain au chocolat and sourdough bread.

The flaky croissants are some of the best I’ve ever tasted, with fine crispy layers melting into buttery pleasure in my mouth.

The pain au chocolat is stuffed generously with two sticks of chocolate.

The coffee is roasted onsite up the stairs at Habituel and there’s a choice of the house blend espresso and two single origin beans.

Upstairs at Habituel you’ll also find a childrenswear and toy store Morphological. The products are gorgeous and many of them made on premises.

Habituel is one of our must-do stops whenever we’re visiting the Yarra Valley. The kids clamour for the pastries while I take home a loaf of sourdough. You can also find Habituel’s pastries for sale inside Innocent Bystander and Habituel’s bread served at Giant Steps, amongst other locations.
