A Festival Dedicated to Play-Based Learning

Playbound isn’t just about having fun—though there’s plenty of that, too! It’s all about play-based learning, which helps kids grow physically, socially, emotionally, and intellectually.

The festival focuses on four key areas: play, nature, science, and imagination. Every activity is designed to spark wonder, curiosity, and connection.

Storytime with your little ones can be some of the happiest memories in those early days of parenthood. Not only is it great for your child’s early learning and communication skills, it is also a wonderful way to meet other parents in your community.

I have put together a list of all the library storytimes including baby, toddler and preschool sessions by council area, to make it easy for you to check what times they are on in your neighbourhood.

For bilingual families, we also have a post on Bilingual Storytime Sessions where you can search by council area or language.

Can the milk bottle warmer overheat my bottle?

The warmer is designed to hold and regulate at the correct temperature you have set, therefore avoiding any chance of overheating.

How long does it take to heat a bottle?

This can vary depending on the volume of liquid in the bottle and how cold it is.

It will heat in as fast as 4 minutes anywhere up to 12 minutes.

Can it warm breast milk?

Yes, it’s perfectly safe to warm up breast milk with the Anywhere Portable Warmer. As with any warmer and from our own experience it’s a lot less stressful to warm the bottle in advance of a feed.

Can I take the warmer on an aeroplane?

Yes. In fact it’s a major reason this Travel Bottle Warmer was invented.

It can go with you on your carry on luggage for both domestic and international flights so you have the peace of mind of having a warm bottle at the ready throughout your flight.  Just be careful when attaching the bottle through any turbulence!

Bottle Warmer Plane cafc fe dccfd x

How many bottles should the warmer heat from one charge?

General tests show the warmer can heat 6 x 60ml bottles from room temperature to 37 degrees celsius on a single charge.

However, there are many factors that can affect how many bottles the warmer can heat from one charge. These include:

  • The type of bottle (narrow neck takes more time/power to heat).
  • How cold the bottle is
  • How much liquid is in the bottle
  • If the battery is fully charged
  • The length of time you have owned the product

The longer it takes to heat the bottle, the fewer bottles can be heated in one charge.

Tiny kids will have a hoot at Teeny Tiny Cafe. With a play shop and kitchen, a soft play tunnel and slide, a Duplo wall, ride-on cars, plus dress-ups and a pamper room – it’s a whole world of tiny play activities to let imaginations run wild!

Teeny Tiny Cafe offers the perfect combination of play and a cafe allowing parents to relax while their children burn off energy, engage in interactive play and enjoy a tasty snack or two.

Teeny Tiny Cafe px
Teeny Tiny Cafe

Teeny Tiny Cafe, Docklands Melbourne

Toddlers and preschool kids are so well catered to at Teeny Tiny Cafe, with so many role-play activities to spark imagination it soon feels like they’re running the cafe themselves! It’s a delightful playhouse where kids can indulge in a variety of fun play areas.

Teeny Tiny Cafe

Located in the Docklands, this is a bit of a hidden gem. From the street, you might mistake it for just another small coffee shop but once you head in you’ll discover out the back is a spacious indoor play cafe. And it’s one of a kind.

Inside you’ll find a variety of creative play spaces, toys, and activities beautifully designed to stimulate children’s imagination and physical development.

Teeny Tiny Cafe px

The pastel-coloured theme throughout is pleasant with soft melodic Disney covers playing in the background. I love the use of padded flooring and cushioned equipment to minimise the risk of injuries during playtime, especially for little ones not yet confident on their feet.

Now, get ready for the ultimate role-playing adventure!

Teeny Tiny Cafe px

Kids can splurge on gourmet groceries, adding goodies like eggplant, cos lettuce, or a whole crab to their shopping basket.

Teeny Tiny Cafe px
Teeny Tiny Cafe px

Then, head to the kitchen to cook up a feast. The play kitchen has a stovetop, crockery, sink, coffee machine, microwave, and fridge.

Teeny Tiny Cafe px

The soft-play tunnel and slide circuit get a real workout from those little legs, while the small cars can be driven around the room and come complete with petrol bowsers to fill up.

Teeny Tiny Cafe px

Creative kids can stop at the Lego wall for a rainbow of Duplo to build and design anything they desire.

Teeny Tiny Cafe px

Then there’s the pamper playroom! My kids were captivated by the makeup stations, beanbags, mirrors, and dress-up wardrobe. Little ones can pretend to powder their noses before suiting up for their day of play.

Teeny Tiny Cafe px

One of the best parts about this whole experience is that parents and caregivers can sit and enjoy snacks, beverages, or a tasty meal and easily keep watch whilst their little tykes play.

Teeny Tiny Cafe px

It’s comfortable, relaxing, and fun for the adults too!

Teeny Tiny Cafe px

After enjoying a pretend coffee, cake, and lobster feast, you can order some real-life food and drinks.

Kids’ meal options include pizza, nuggets, spaghetti, or a sandwich, and come with a side of chips and a drink. There’s also a range of tasty bakery items and sweets like waffles, ice cream, matcha cookies, and adorable animal macarons that my kids were just delighted about.

Teeny Tiny Cafe px

A variety of specialty coffees for the grown-ups are beautifully made and the menu includes some unique options like a purple potato latte or matcha latte. Other delicious Korean-style meals are on offer including bibimbap don, pork char siu, teriyaki chicken, or a wagyu brisket toastie.

Teeny Tiny Cafe px

The staff are very friendly and attentive. Food can be ordered from your phone via the QR code at your table, which is convenient and fast. They also do a great job keeping the play space clean, tidying up every half hour or so, and doing a full reset after each session time ends ready for the next group to come in.

Teeny Tiny Cafe px

The entry fee to Teeny Tiny Cafe for kids is $14.50, which includes a children’s meal. For adults there is a $5 entry charge however this includes a coffee or soft drink, which is completely reasonable and ensures you are spending some money to contribute to their small business. Children under the age of two can enjoy free entry.

Teeny Tiny Cafe px

To get there, kids can enjoy the thrill of a tram ride along Collins Street. Alternatively, street parking is available, or it’s a short walk from Southern Cross train station.
Before or after your visit to Teeny Tiny Cafe, I recommend heading to the very fun Library at the Dock and Buluk Park playground, a short walk away.

Tips for visiting Teeny Tiny Cafe:

  • Opening hours are Tues to Sun, from 10:00 am – 3:00 pm;
  • It’s very popular so definitely book upfront online: https://reservation.abacus.co/store/4996347/reservation
  • Session times are 10:00 am, 11:45 am, or 1:45 pm;
  • We recommend booking the first session of the day as the room is a little quieter;
  • Entry fees are:
    Kids $14.50, which includes a children’s meal
    Adults $5, which includes a coffee or soft drink
    Children under 2 are free;
  • No outside food or drink allowed (excluding baby food);
  • High chairs and baby change facilities are available;
  • Get there via tram along Collins Street, train from Southern Cross station, or car with street parking directly out the front;
  • Head to the nearby Library at the Dock and Buluk Park playground before or after your visit.

It’s always exciting to find a good restaurant that caters well to little ones, and at Cheeky Chewies you’re greeted with a big smile, leaving with full bellies and happy kids!

Whether it’s the soft play kids’ room or the large selection of high-quality yummy meals (plus bubble tea!), there are plenty of reasons to keep you coming back to this family-friendly restaurant in Laverton.

PXL .MP

Cheeky Chewies Café and Restaurant Laverton

Located just off the highway in Laverton, Cheeky Chewies is open for breakfast, lunch and dinner seven days a week. The restaurant is comfortable, clean and spacious, making it a great spot to meet up with friends or enjoy a great-value family meal.

An attentive and warm feel from the team behind the counter ensures you are welcomed and with their fun-loving flair, you’ll also feel part of the Cheeky family.

PXL

With an ethos of serving their community, owners and siblings John and Celine Chew employ young locals, strive for best sustainability practices and have a strong focus on accommodating families. There is clearly a lot of passion for good, affordable, tasty food too.

PXL

The menu is delicious and diverse. Talented chefs bring Asian fusion to life with very generously sized meals mingling between western, Japanese and Malay tastes and flavours, with a touch of Chinese and Thai in there too.

PXL
PXL

Whether you’re after a burger or a big breakfast, ramen or rice, noodles, hot pot, laksa, ribs.., the list goes on. Then there’s the range of homemade waffIes for dessert and most notably, freshly made bubble tea.

I must say I haven’t seen any items coming out of the kitchen that I wouldn’t want to sink my teeth into.

PXL

For the kids, there are seven kids meals to choose from and for $11.90 they will get a drink, a side of cut fruit and a small toy included.

PXL

Cheeky Chewies’ little room of soft play is excellent for preschool aged kids. There’s a soft slide, seesaw and two busy boards on the wall, with colourful soft matting on the floor. It’s a perfect break-out area for busy little legs before or after meals.

PXL

The kids area is for under 6s only and of course requires adult supervision. Even though we got up from our meals a few times to go and play, it wasn’t difficult or disruptive to our dinner.

There are high chairs and colouring activities too.

PXL .MP

The Cheeky Chewies Marketplace came about during COVID lockdowns. Here, you can select specialty items and cooking ingredients to take home, including Asian sauces, bubble tea, Japanese snacks, kids activities and even accessories.

PXL

With their success in feeding families since 2017 in Laverton, the Cheeky Chewies family have opened a second restaurant in Werribee. With the same values and family-friendly focus, it’s definitely worth a visit, too.

PXL .MP

 Things to note about Cheeky Chewies

  • Adults must supervise children in the soft play area
  • No shoes in the soft play area – remember to pack some socks for the kids
  • Highchairs are available
  • Some outdoor seating is available and this area is dog friendly
  • Visit their second restaurant Cheeky Chewies Werribee
  • Order specialty products online or in store from Cheeky Chewies Marketplace

Zan Zanz is an enjoyable place for families to savour healthy, fresh and affordable food, fun play equipment and good coffee.

Make the most of this great value breakfast and lunch spot in Williamstown North, which has a children’s play area with blocks, cars and trucks, a play kitchen and even a jumping castle!

PXL

Zan Zanz Williamstown North

Located on the outskirts of an industrial precinct in Williamstown North, Zan Zanz is the perfect stop before or after a morning of activity where kids can play and parents can relax.

The vibe is laid back and relaxed with indoor and outdoor bench and stool seating, and a walk-up coffee window outside.

PXL

The kids play area is indoors and has a big tub of blocks, cars and trucks on a road play mat, as well as a play kitchen with wooden food and a coffee machine. And then there’s a decent size jumping castle, perfect to jump those weekend sillies out!

PXL
PXL .MP

For older kids (and adults) there’s a dart board outside by the coffee window.

Get ready to experience a lot of love from the Zan Zanz team, as you’ll get yummy affordable food and great coffee with big friendly smiles.

PXL

The Panini menu is enticing! If you’re after something traditional, the Ham Zan Panini won’t disappoint. Or there’s the Veegzan Panini which is packed full of yummy roasted pumpkin, capsicums, zucchini, onion, spinach, baba ganoush and pepper relish.

PXL

For something more unique there’s some fun options too, like the Zansky Panini with a grilled kransky or a Pizza Panini with napoli sauce and all the trimmings. The Paninis all cost between $10-13!

On our recent visit we found it very easy to tailor our food order and for dietary needs we were happy to be able to pick-and-choose the panini toppings without any fuss.

PXL .PORTRAIT

The menu also features five delicious Bowlz including a veggie falafel, beef burrito and chilli tuna bowl. While the front counter has a range of fresh baked goods and cold drinks, you can browse an array of coffee products available too.

PXL .PORTRAIT

The coffee is exceptional and roasted onsite through the Cherry Mouth Roaster brand.

If you’re on the run, send a quick text message from your phone to order your goods, and pick up at the window on your way past.

Grab a Zup Cup with your coffee for an easy snack of lollies or nuts on-the-go.

PXL .PORTRAIT

Winter colds, allergies and sniffles starting already? The award-winning patented Carepod humidifer is here to the rescue.

If you have young children, you know that the arrival of winter and dry winter air can cause sore throats, dry sinuses, stuffy noses, and croup infections. Going through the winter with a constantly sick baby can be scary for first-time parents too.

Humidifier For Babies and Children

A Carepod humidifier placed safely in your child’s room (or even your room) may be the game changer you’re looking for when it comes to symptom relief. It was designed in South Korea in 2015 by Dr. Hyung Joo Kim after he became frustrated by the limitations of the current humidifiers on the market.

Dr. Kim knew that well-hydrated air was key to people’s daily health and that a healthy level of indoor humidity was important for fighting respiratory infections and reducing symptoms. Using his engineering background, Dr. Kim teamed up with a design firm and manufacturer to invent a line of high-quality ultrasonic humidifiers.

After securing a design patent, Carepod launched with great success to Asian consumers. It was the Number 1 selling humidifier in South Korea in 2020 and 2021.

How Does The Carepod Works

Carepod can help with colds, coughs and allergies by simply adding moisture to the air to combat the dry environment.

The hybrid ultrasonic humidifier offers a streamlined, minimalistic aesthetic. There are only three parts for easy cleaning and maintenance and the stainless-steel interior means it can be 99.99% sterilised with boiling water.

Other product highlights include:

  • Fully compliant with RoHS safety standards
  • Approved for FDA clearance
  • Reddot winner 2022
  • iF Design Award 2022

Where To Place A Humidifier

If you’re in the market for a humidifier then a common question is ‘where should I put my humidifier?’

Carepod says that there are a few things to consider when deciding on the location of your humidifier:

  • the surface needs to be flat, dry, and stable;
  • elevation – the higher the better!  Place your humidifier at least half a metre off the floor. This ensures the even distribution of the mist and you’re less likely to to accidentally slip or knock the machine over. Also if you place your humidifier on the floor, the mist has little chance to get mixed with the air and you’ll only end up with wet floors.
  • place some sort of mat or towel under the humidifier to catch spills and droplets and to protect your furniture;
  • keep your humidifier away from direct sunlight. Never put it by the window. With sunlight’s direct exposure, the water inside produces bacteria that will vaporise, which can cause serious respiratory problems;
  • put your humidifier in a place that you can easily access so that you can clean your humidifier and change the water frequently to avoid bacteria growing inside the water;
  • make sure you leave a gap between the wall and the humidifier for it to circulate well and function correctly;
  • keep your humidifiers away from wooden furniture and electrical sockets; and
  • once the unit is turned on, leave the door slightly open so that the air does not become too moist.

You can put your humidifier in a bedroom, living room or kids room/nursery.  A few things to note depending the location:

  • it’s not recommended to place a humidifier right next to your bed. Diffusing it throughout the air is much better than inhaling directly concentrated air moisture;
  • in particularly, placing a warm mist humidifier near the bed can be dangerous and is not recommended, as the machine uses boiling water to produce a warm mist;
  • it is not ideal to have a large unit in a small room as it will only create a moist environment for mould and mildew; and
  • to prevent accidents inside the nursery or kids room, it is highly suggested to use a cool-mist humidifier. Also place it in a location where your child is not likely to accidentally knock it over and at least a metre away from the beds.
