Have you ever wondered what it was like aboard the legendary Titanic? Now’s your chance!
Melbourne Museum is hosting TITANIC: The Artefact Exhibition, a once-in-a-lifetime experience that’s perfect for history buffs or families looking for an engaging outing with the kids.
Titanic Exhibition Melbourne
Direct from a sold-out season in Paris and exclusive to Melbourne Museum, TITANIC: The Artefact Exhibition is the most extensive and authentic Titanic exhibition in the world.
Over a century after the Titanic’s ill-fated maiden voyage, the Titanic Museum experience brings the ship’s iconic story to life, offering a unique educational experience for both older kids and adults.
What to Expect
Upon entering the Titanic at Museum Melbourne, you’ll be given a boarding pass for one of the real passengers, with some information about who they were, where they were from and what passage they’d booked.
This leads to a discussion about the stark class divisions that existed on the ‘ship of dreams’. The boarding passes for our allocated passengers are all for males booked in third class – and we guess that they’re probably unlikely to have survived the sinking.
The boarding passes help the kids to understand the human side of the tragedy. At the end of the exhibition, you can discover the fate of your nominated passenger (and we were right).
Engaging Exhibits for Kids
Within the exhibition, you’ll discover an array of artefacts and detailed reconstructions. The life-sized recreations and captivating storytelling will capture the imagination of older children and adults alike.
The only thing missing is the rocking of a ship!
Step back in time, walking through recreations of the ship’s luxurious interiors such as the Grand Staircase, First Class Parlour Suite, and Verandah Cafe.
You can also view over 200 real artefacts and personal belongings recovered directly from the Titanic’s wreck site, deep on the ocean floor. These really give you a real sense of the life and times of its passengers.
There are not many interactive elements or hands-on activities, except for the touchable iceberg where you can feel the chill of an iceberg!
There’s one multimedia presentation near the end and plenty of photo-friendly spots.
All of the features make the Titanic experience not only educational but also engaging for history enthusiasts and curious kids.

The Titanic high tea is available every day at 10:30am or 3pm for $79 per person and includes admission to Melbourne Museum. There’s no children’s price.
Walk-ins are welcomed pending availability, but pre-bookings are highly recommended.
