Bunjil Place is a stunning new community hub and entertainment precinct in Narre Warren. It aims to be accessible art, cultural and community precinct for residents of the City of Casey and Melbourne’s south-east.
As you travel down the Princes Freeway you can’t miss the huge curved walls and roof and it is located in front of Westfield Fountain Gate shopping centre.
The front of Bunjil Place is an outdoor community plaza with a fun splash pad and surrounded by bean bags. To the left, there is a small playground with a nest swing and small climbing frame.
The foyer is particularly impressive, with the enormous timber grid shell supporting the tall glass façade. There you will also find the Bunjil Place Cafe serving salads, light meals, sandwiches, pastries, sweets and Syndicate coffee.

From the foyer, you can find enter the theatre, studio, function centre, gallery and City of Casey Customer Service Centre.
We visit the three-storey library which is the new home of Casey Cardinia Libraries Narre Warren branch.
When I ask the front desk where the children’s area is I’m told the WHOLE ground floor is the children’s area! There’s a huge collection of picture books and chapter books as well as cosy reading nooks set into the walls, bean bags and dress up and games to play.
Other unique features include an upstairs reading amphitheatre and peaceful outdoor reading garden. I reckon this new library is one of Melbourne’s best libraries.
All year round Bunjil Place hosts a full program of community events and performances – keep an eye out on their Events page to discover what’s new.
Bunjil Place is an inspiring example of what a contemporary community space can be. If you’re in the area it’s worth visiting – and if it’s hot remember to take your bathers and towel for water play!
