Air Playground, the family favourite temporary exhibition at Scienceworks that’s all about AIR – is back for a second season and reinvigorated with fresh interactive exhibitions and displays!
Kids and their families can play with air, the amazing invisible elemental force, and experience the science of aerodynamics hands-on.

Air Playground is a playful journey through six breezy worlds each exploring different concepts of air. We were invited to experience the exhibition on opening night!
The brightly coloured exhibition is suitable for older and younger kids, as each age group will gain something different from their visit.
Lady AB, at 12 years old, had as much fun as her 10-year-old brother, while I saw many families with younger children getting in on the fun! We stayed for close to 90 minutes in the exhibition.
Feed scarves into one of the five inlet holes and watch the fabric whoosh and float to the ground.
Play with balancing balls of different shapes in the air flows of boulders and learn about the Bernoulli effect…
You can also blow-dry your hair!
Learn about air compression and force as you launch balls into the air! The ball launcher is a popular experience so you may have to wait a bit.
Play with air flows as you navigate a tabletop mini golf course….
…and make and launch a paper airplane and experiment with which paper planes fly best in a special flight path.
A highlight of the Air Playground is the Inflatable Adventure – a jumping castle with a scientific bent!
Have fun and learn in this immersive and buoyant experience with air squashed it into tubes, tunnels and cushions to create a kooky inflatable structure.
Three-minute sessions run throughout the day, with up to 10 people (2 adults maximum) inside the structure at one time.
You’ll need to take off your shoes, watches and spiky earrings.
