When I told Lady AB that we were going out for afternoon tea her eyes lit up and she said ‘cake?’. I nodded. And then it was ‘cake! cake! cake!’ all the way in the car, up the escalators, at the table…
This Easter school holidays The Langham is offering a Barbie-themed afternoon tea (in the morning actually) to celebrate – wait for it – Barbie moving out of the Barbie Dreamhouse in Malibu. Lady AB and I were invited to try the Barbie Dreamhouse Children’s Tiffin Morning Tea which is being offered along with their traditional Tiffin afternoon tea (for adults).
I often recommend The Langham as having the best traditional high tea in Melbourne and their semi-regular children’s themed afternoon teas are equally delightful.
Lady AB’s tier included sweets in the shape of some of Barbie’s favourite items from her Dreamhouse – a suitcase cookie and Barbie car cookie, pink lamington shoebox, a pink glitter chocolate cupcake, fairy bread and a fluorescent blue ‘Malibu Beach’ jelly cup. She attacked the sweets as soon as they arrived, giving every item an exploratory nibble before going the whole hog with a concurrent two-handed approach and trying to slurp down the jelly like a shot. She actually cackled in delight!
The other tiers included a ham and cheese sandwich and a scone with strawberry jam, which Lady AB treated as a dip.
As you can see, almost every item in the morning tea is pink! Luckily it happens to be Lady Ab’s favourite colour and she picked her pink dress to wear. I swear a preference for pink is something we never actively encouraged but I’m told that most little girls go through a ‘pink’ phase (and we’re starting to see the beginning of the ‘princess’ phase too….)
To drink you can order hot chocolate or pink lemonade. I declined both for the toddler (the former too hot and messy, the latter to artificial and sugary) so she was given water in a glass with a straw, which was just as fun for her.
The Barbie Dreamhouse Children’s Tiffin Morning Tea is available weekdays during the school holidays from 1 to 19 April. It’s $30 per child accompanied by a full paying adult or for $45 your little girl (or boy) can take home a Barbie Fashionista Assortment doll.
