Why People Call It The Ballarat Zoo

As parents seeking enriching experiences for our little ones, discovering places that combine education with entertainment is like striking gold. Here, amidst the lush greenery and vibrant wildlife, children are not merely spectators but active participants in the marvels of the natural world.

Upon entering the wildlife park, families are greeted by the lively chatter of native birds and the rustling of leaves in the breeze. The scent of eucalyptus wafts through the air as koalas lounge lazily in the treetops, epitomising the laid-back Australian lifestyle.

Exploring Ballarat Wildlife

One of the highlights of any visit to Ballarat Wildlife Park is the opportunity to get up close and personal with some of Australia’s most iconic creatures.

From hand-feeding kangaroos to posing for photos with cuddly koalas, every moment promises to be unforgettable. Children’s faces light up with wonder as they stroke the soft fur of a wallaby or watch in awe as a towering emu struts past.

With more than 35 koalas, wombats, crocodiles, and even an exhibit featuring the world’s smallest penguins, the park is a treasure trove of remarkable wildlife.

A World of Discovery

For many children, a visit to Ballarat Wildlife Park marks their first encounter with some of the most unique Australian animals. From the majestic wedge-tail eagle to the elusive quolls and green tree frogs, every corner of the park holds the promise of a new discovery.

Here is the chance to glimpse creatures rarely seen outside of their native habitat, such as the dingo, Tasmanian devil, and the quokka. Children are sure to leave with a newfound appreciation for the natural world.

While the focus may be on Australian wildlife, Ballarat Wildlife Park also offers a glimpse into the diverse ecosystems of neighbouring countries.

From tree kangaroos hailing from Papua New Guinea to the majestic Komodo dragons from Indonesia, this Ballarat zoo showcases the rich biodiversity of the Asia-Pacific region.

And for those seeking an extra thrill, this is the only place in Victoria where visitors can embark on a special, interactive tiger encounter.

Navigating the Park

For parents seeking a stress-free outing, Ballarat Wildlife Park provides ample amenities and facilities.

Information and maps are provided at the ticketing desk. Plaques and navigation signs are strategically placed throughout the park, ensuring that no exhibit goes unexplored.

Clean and accessible restrooms are conveniently located, making it easy for families to take a break and refuel before continuing their adventure.

The onsite cafe has a range of affordable meals, drinks, and snacks. Picnic tables are dotted throughout the park, along with grassed areas where you can sit and enjoy a home-packed lunch.

The enclosed sandpit play area located next to the Fairy Penguins was a great spot to park and play in between animal presentations. Don’t forget to stop at the gift shop for a cuddly souvenir on your way out.

Awards and Recognition

As a testament to its excellence, Ballarat Wildlife Park was honoured as the Gold Winner of the Victorian Tourism Awards for Best Attraction in 2023. This accolade speaks volumes about the park’s commitment to providing visitors with an exceptional experience.

Owned and operated by the Parker family and their dedicated team, the wildlife park is not just a business but a labour of love. And with its convenient location just four minutes from Sovereign Hill, Ballarat Wildlife Park is the perfect destination for a day of family fun and discovery.
