Head to the Murray river and experience the magic of a miniature world at Wodonga Creek Miniature Railway. Located on the creek bank, this enchanting railway promises a journey like no other.
Bring a picnic lunch or grab some drinks and snacks at the ticket desk, and head to the playground across the road before or after your train ride.
Trains run every 3rd Sunday from February to December, 11am – 3.15pm.
Tickets are $3.00 per ride.

2. Diamond Valley Miniature Railway
Diamond Valley Railway has often been labeled one of the best miniature railways in Melbourne. With over two kilometres of track winding through stunning bush, the trains are miniature versions of different locomotives and offer a fun experience for all ages.
Be sure to stop at Eltham Lower Park playspace on your way to or from the railway.
Trains operate every Sunday from 11am – 5pm.

3. Hamilton Miniature Railway
The railway, located in Victoria’s western districts, is operated by passionate volunteers who pour their heart into creating a captivating experience for visitors. The track meanders through the historic streetscape of the Hamilton Pastoral Museum in Hiller Lane.
Check out their schedule during summer for twilight train rides as well as the monthly track-side farmers market.
Operating on the first Sunday of every month from 10.30 am – 3.00 pm

4. Cobden Miniature Railway
Situated at the site of the old Cobden racecourse, Cobden Miniature Railway features 1.8 kilometres of track with bridges, tunnels, overpasses and lakes to enjoy along the way.
For train lovers of all ages, you can even host a party or gathering and privately reserve the miniature railway on a date not open to public.
Trains operate on specified dates only from 11 am – 4 pm.

5. Corowa Apex Miniature Steam Train
Just across the border where Victoria meets NSW, The Apex Miniature Steam Train runs through the charming Bangerang Park on the first Sunday of the month. From kids to grandparents, everyone is sure to be enchanted by these steam-powered miniature locomotives.
The miniature train open days coincide with the monthly Corowa Rotary Federation Farmers and Community Market, so you can pick up some delicious produce and local goodies whilst there.

6. Bulla Hill Railway
Located just a 40-minute drive northwest of Melbourne, Bulla Hill Railway is perfect for a fun day out with the family. Having been around since 1973, the exquisite miniature steam and diesel trains make this one of the most popular miniature railways Melbourne has to offer.
Kids will love the dinosaur theme throughout the 1.5km of track which ventures through the Tullamarine Valley. Another reason to visit is the playground right next door!
Operating every 3rd Sunday from 11am – 4pm (last train leaves at 3.45pm).

7. Altona Miniature Railway
A hidden gem in Melbourne’s western suburbs is the Altona Miniature Railway.
Families can take a ride on miniature steam and diesel engines whilst enjoying tall trees, tunnels and plenty of loops. A food truck and plenty of picnic tables mean you could easily spend a few hours here.
Trains run on the 3rd Sunday of each month from 10am – 3pm.
Cost is $4 per person per ride. Children under 12 months ride free.

8. The Miniature Railway, National Steam Centre
Train lovers get a two-for-one deal at The National Steam Centre in Scoresby, with both a steam train museum and miniature railway all in one place.
Visitors will enjoy both a leisurely train ride, with sounds of steam locomotion as well as various vintage machinery including oil engines, stationary steam engines, earth movers, and a blacksmith shop.
Within the grounds, there’s a beautiful lake, barbecues, picnic tables and plenty of shade.
The museum is open Saturday and Sunday from 11am – 4pm, note that the miniature railway operates on Sundays only.
Museum entry is by donation and a ride on the miniature railway is $4 per person.

Box Hill Miniature Railway provides an opportunity to ride on miniature steam trains, whilst journeying through the lovely gardens and trees of Elgar Park.
