HOT: Funtopia, Carrum Downs

It’s too hot, or cold, or wet, or windy. You need an indoor play space for the kids to burn off all their energy! Solution: Funtopia Carrum Downs, Australia’s biggest play centre and a huge playground and indoor climbing centre combined in one!

Funtopia Carrum 6

There are two different ‘worlds’ to choose from – Playground World and Climbing World – with different prices for each world or both worlds combined. It’s the newest venture for the folks from Funtopia Global, who already have a centre in Melbourne’s west in Maribyrnong.

Funtopia Carrum 12

Both of the worlds have outstanding features with modern play centre equipment. The centre has MASSIVE air conditioners (Hello Summer!) and a fun party atmosphere complete with smoke machines and high energy music.

Funtopia Carrum 2

If that sounds like it’s too overwhelming then sensory-friendly (ASD) sessions with no music, smoke machines, or interactivity, and with specially-trained staff rostered, will be available fortnightly.

Climbing World is an indoor rock climbing area with 40 climbing walls starting from beginner to advanced level.  On launch, children from 4+ years will be able to enter the climbing world, and assisted climbing for younger kiddies will be available shortly.

Climbers are always guided by the professional staff, although the self-belay harness system allows people to clip on safely without supervision.

Funtopia Carrum 8

Many of the same walls found at Funtopia Maribyrnong are inside Funtopia Carrum Downs.

Playground World is the biggest indoor playground arena in Australia, with over 5km of steel, offering 2500 square metres of riveting fun and interactive technology!

Playground World has an Australiana theme and includes Funtopia (“Flinders Street”) Station, Sydney Harbour Bridge, Uluru, MCG, and more!

There is also a disco light corner, ball cannon, and different mazes, slides and tunnels specifically designed for the kids to improve their physical skills to enable them to use the climbing walls effectively.

Funtopia Carrum 10

In the middle of Playground World is the signature Car Track that weaves through the playground arena with tolls, traffic lights and more! At $2 for a 4-minute “drive”, this is sure to be a winner with parents and kids alike.

Funtopia Carrum 4

A section of Playground World is designated for children under 3 years where they can enjoy climbing, sliding, rocking and playing on soft mats. This area is separated from the main structure so you can know your little ones are safe and protected from the bigger, more boisterous kids. There are also tables right next to it with good sightlines (though I don’t recommend leaving such young children in there on their own!).

Miss 4 is especially enamoured of the two interactive rooms. The left room features an “under the sea” corner where children can colour in sea creatures that staff scan for projection onto the wall. This is where the magic happens! The projected creatures are animated, rendered in 3D, and children can interact with their creations by tapping on the wall!

Funtopia Carrum 7

The right room had a wide variety of interactive tapping games projected onto the wall.

Funtopia Carrum 9

Playground World is supervised, both at ground level and within the play structure, and CCTV cameras further ensure the safety of patrons. If your kids are old enough not to require arms-length supervision then there’s even free wifi with entry!

So you can chill out and relax at Funtopia Carrum Downs you’ll also find a full-service café called Mr Spriggins. Menu options are available to suit a variety of dietary requirements and include vegetarian, vegan, and nut-free items. Mr Spriggins is also open to customers who do not wish to climb or play at Funtopia Carrum Downs, and while the kitchen closes approximately an hour before the centre does, a selection of items remain available to purchase until the centre closes.

The fun is never-ending at Funtopia Carrum Downs and you can enjoy just Climbing World, just Playground World or both worlds. Whatever you decide you’re guaranteed to have a tonne of fun!
