Eighty years ago, Marvel Comics started out as a small comics company and has now turned into the massive movie franchise and pop culture phenomenon we know and love now.
To mark Marvel Comic’s history, Melbourne Central is hosting Marvel: Journey of Heroes, a free exhibition that celebrates iconic characters such as Spider-Man, Wolverine, Thor, Iron Man, Captain America and more.
Marvel: Journey of Heroes moves through each of Marvel’s eight decades, starting with its origins as Timely Comics.
Admire the work of legendary artists such as Stan Lee, Jack Kirby and Steve Ditko interspersed with original artwork inspired by Marvel by local artists Patrick Brown, Jon Sommariva, David Yardin, Ben Templesmith and Wayne Nichols.
Other reviews I’ve read have said that the exhibition is ‘huge’. It is not!

It’s basically two small gallery corridors, albeit very colourful and full of imagery.
As we are not Marvel mega-fans we spend about fifteen minutes looking at all the artwork. It makes for a good break with kids if you’re shopping or eating at Melbourne Central and it’s free, so that’s why it gets a HOT.
For Marvel fans, there is an onsite merchandise stand with custom-designed pieces by Radio Velvet. The store is open Monday–Friday 11am–5pm and Saturday–Sunday from 10am–5pm
Marvel: Journey of Heroes is on display at Melbourne Central until Sunday 29 September 2019.
