[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]Enjoy a delicious high tea, get creative with chocolate and learn a bit about ancient history at the Terracotta Warriors High Tea at the Sofitel Melbourne on Collins.
Over 2200 years ago, thousands of brightly painted terracotta warriors were buried with the First Emperor of China, Qin, to protect him in the afterlife.
These Terracotta Warriors were uncovered in the 1970s and are now considered one of the ancient wonders of the world.
Inspired by the Terracotta Warriors & Cai Guo-Qiang Melbourne Winter Masterpieces exhibition showing at the National Gallery of Victoria Melbourne (buy discount tickets to see the Terracotta Warriors here), Sofitel Melbourne on Collins is hosting a Chinese-themed high tea at Sofi’s Lounge.
We are invited to sample the Terracotta Warriors High Tea and are so stuffed by the end that we don’t have dinner! Plus it is delicious, fun and offers something different from your run-of-the-mill afternoon tea.
There is a sumptuous buffet of hot canapes, sandwiches, scones, sweet treats plus you can paint your own chocolate terracotta warrior with edible chocolate paint.
We start with a hot buffet selection of steamed char siu bao, crispy prawn fried wontons and little plates of sticky ginger beef.
We could have happily stayed at the hot buffet! However, if traditional crustless sandwiches are more your style then there are five different Chinese-inspired fillings from which to choose.
I am particularly impressed by the artistic vision of the Chinese-themed sweets. My highlights are the strawberry and yuzu tartlet, chocolate and pineapple wontons, red bean curd and white chocolate bombes, and black sesame and matcha macarons.
The full menu can be viewed here. There are vegetarian and gluten-free options if required.
For drinks every there is unlimited tea or coffee and a glass of sparkling to start. For $118 you can receive free-flowing sparkling wine.
Each visitor is provided with a specially crafted chocolate Terracotta Warrior, designed to replicate one of the real statues. You head to the Dulux® colour-matched fountains to fill your paint pots with edible chocolate paint. Then it’s time to get creative!
The kids love experimenting with mixing the colours and painting them on the figure…as well as occasionally taste-testing the chocolate paint!
We take our chocolate warrior home because it really is too good to eat. Plus we are stuffed!
Don’t miss the amazing chocolate display of the excavated tomb of the Terracotta Warriors on your way out.
Terracotta Warriors High Tea is a really special experience for gastronomes, with the interactive art project making the afternoon tea particularly unique.
