Brick Man Experience – The Complete Collection by Ryan McNaught is the must-see exhibition for LEGO lovers big and small these school holidays.
For the first time ever Ryan “Brick Man” McNaught, one of only twelve LEGO Certified Professionals in the world and the only one in the Southern Hemisphere, is exhibiting his remarkable collection of over 50 original LEGO works inside Crown Conference Centre.
We are invited to review the exhibition as a family.
Check out the intricate details of the Love Boat made of 250,000 bricks and Sydney Opera House (with a Lego Peter Allen performing!), marvel at the scale model of the 4m long rescue helicopter and visit landmarks such as the Sydney Harbour Bridge and Rome’s Colosseum.
Other LEGO Certified professionals have contributed displays too, with a “Transport” theme.
Being a bike lover and an ex-Londoner I particularly like the New York bike share Citibike overshadowing all the tiny yellow taxis and the red Routemaster.
Lady AB is particularly star-struck to meet the stars of The Lego Movie :–)
The technical skill and funny little in-jokes within the displays are quite incredible and there is lots of behind-the-scenes information including preparatory drawings and factoids. As such, I think the exhibition is best suited for kids 6+ who are more likely to appreciate the work and detail of the displays…
…as opposed to our kids (2yo and 4yo) who love the hands-on LEGO play the best (and paying $99 for a family ticket to play with LEGO which they could do at home doesn’t seem good value for money!). In the ‘Master Builder in Training’ area kids and adults alike rifle through troughs of LEGO to build and display their creations.
It is amazing to watch the focussed attention by all these little builders and Lady AB is so proud of her yellow house that she insists it is put on the highest shelf in the display cabinet.
Everyone can also contribute to two Lego mosaics by building a tile and adding it to the picture.
The exhibition spans three rooms and at the end of the displays, there’s a small colouring-in and craft area for toddlers.
HOT Tips:
- Bookings are essential. Tickets via brickmanexperience.com.au.
- Try and see all the exhibits before you head to the LEGO play area…otherwise you’ll never get the kids away!
- There are 3 rooms of displays – if you want to avoid crowding then start at the end and work backwards. There’s no chronological or other specific order to the works.
- Cameras are allowed inside.
- For parking I suggest the Crown multi-story carpark which is $6 for 0-6 hours during off-peak hours
- For food there are lots of options at Crown though our current favourite is yum cha at Lucky Chan – a bit pricey but excellent quality and you can be in and out in 20 minutes!
